The Victorian on Two Acres

Modesto, California

🏛️ A genuine 1877 Victorian mansion on the National Register of Historic Places — 3,600 sqft of tall ceilings, bay-window turrets and an original clawfoot tub, sitting behind a gate on two private acres. 🏊 A full-size pool, hot tub and shaded cabanas out back, with a big furnished deck and a gas grill. 3 miles to downtown Modesto, 2 hours to Yosemite. Sleeps 12 across 4 bedrooms. 📶 Fast WiFi.

  • 12 guests
  • 4 bedrooms
  • 2 baths
  • 2 night minimum

The space

The whole house is yours, along with the pool, the deck and the lawns.

  • 4 Bedrooms, Sleeps 12 — The main-floor master is a proper suite: a king bed, its own en-suite bathroom with the original clawfoot tub, and a small sofa that folds flat for one more. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms — one with a queen and a second fold-flat sofa, one with a queen and a desk in the bay window, and one with a queen plus a children's bunk bed. One bedroom and one bathroom are on the ground floor if stairs are a concern.
  • 2 Bathrooms — Including that original clawfoot tub, which is exactly as good as it sounds. Towels, linens, toiletries, conditioner and a hair dryer are all provided.
  • Full Kitchen — A big blue-tile island with seating, a wet bar with a second dishwasher, a full-size fridge, stove and oven, microwave, blender, toaster and a coffee maker. Stocked with dishware, wine glasses, flatware, cookware, cooking basics and spices.
  • Living & Dining — Two separate living areas, a wood-burning stove, a smart TV with streaming, and a dining table that genuinely seats the group. The bay-window turret off the front room is the spot everyone claims first — three tall windows looking out over the lawn.
  • Pool, Hot Tub & Cabanas — A full-size pool with a hot tub beside it and shaded cabanas along the water. A large furnished deck for meals outside, a gas grill with utensils, and a lounge seating area.
  • Two Gated Acres — Fenced and fully your own, with enough open green space that the kids can genuinely run.
  • Board Games — A shelf of them for when nobody wants to go anywhere.
  • Laundry — Full washer and dryer in the house, plus an iron and ironing board.
  • Fast WiFi & Workspace — Complimentary throughout, strong enough for work calls and streaming, with a desk and chair in one of the upstairs bedrooms.
  • Central A/C & Heat — Which matters in a Central Valley summer. Ceiling fans throughout.
  • Parking — Gated gravel driveway with room for 4 vehicles.
  • Self Check-In — Arrive on your own schedule.

What you get access to

  • The whole house is yours — all 4 bedrooms, both bathrooms, both living rooms, the kitchen and dining room, the laundry, the pool, hot tub and cabanas, the deck and grill, the lawns, and the gated driveway with room for 4 vehicles.
  • Two things are not part of the rental: the owner's quarters and any room, cabinet or building marked private, owner or no guest access, all of which stay locked; and the large tent on the property, which is not a guest amenity and cannot be entered or used. The owner is NOT on-site during your stay.
  • Self check-in. Late arrivals are no problem. 😄

While you are here

We're available by message whenever you need us — usually replying within 30 minutes to an hour — but happy to give you complete privacy. The owner is not on-site during your stay, and self check-in means you arrive entirely on your own schedule. 😊

We're glad to help with Yosemite day-trip timing, tasting rooms around Salida and Lodi, downtown Modesto restaurant picks, directions and parking for Doctors Medical Center or Memorial, and family outings like the Great Valley Museum and Planetarium. 🗺️

The neighbourhood

Two gated acres means the nearest thing to a neighbour is the treeline. 🌳

  • It's one of the few surviving Victorians in Modesto and locally known as the Crow Mansion. Locals recognise it.
  • Downtown Modesto (8 min) has the Gallo Center for the Arts, the McHenry Museum, Graceada and Enslen Parks, and a genuinely good restaurant and coffee scene.
  • The Great Valley Museum & Planetarium at MJC is 9 minutes and worth an afternoon with kids.
  • Tasting rooms start 13 minutes away in Salida, with the Lodi wine trail about 40 minutes north.
  • Vintage Faire Mall, Safeway, Raley's and Costco are all within about 10 minutes.

Getting around

A car is essential here — the house sits on two gated acres just outside the Modesto city line, and there is room for 4 vehicles on the gravel driveway. 🚗

Downtown Modesto is 8 minutes (2.9 mi) and the Gallo Center for the Arts is the same. Modesto Junior College is 9 minutes, Doctors Medical Center 12, Memorial Medical Center 17, and Vintage Faire Mall 11.

Highway 99 is minutes away. San Francisco is about 1 hr 30, Sacramento roughly an hour and a quarter, and the Arch Rock entrance to Yosemite is 2 hours. Stockton Metropolitan Airport is around 40 minutes and Oakland about an hour and a half.

Worth knowing before you book

  • A few things worth knowing before you book:
  • This is a genuine 1877 National Register Victorian, not a modern home styled to look historic. Tall ceilings, bay windows and real character — and period finishes in the kitchen and baths. Immaculately kept, but not a 2026 designer renovation.
  • Two stories, 5 steps up to the front entry. One bedroom and one bathroom are on the ground floor.
  • The owner's quarters and the property's tent are off limits and are not part of the rental. The owner is not on-site during your stay.
  • The pool and hot tub are unfenced from the house side. Children must be supervised at all times.
  • Security cameras are positioned throughout the exterior. None looks into any interior space and none is in a private outdoor area.
  • The property runs on a private well and a septic system. Please conserve water and flush only human waste and toilet paper — no wipes of any kind.
  • Gravel driveway only, 4 vehicles.
  • Quiet hours are 9 PM – 8 AM.
  • We are not able to accommodate pets at this home.
  • No smoking or vaping anywhere on the property, inside or out.
  • A signed rental agreement may be required.
  • Early check-in / late checkout is available based on availability for a fee.
  • Staying 30+ days? Guests are responsible for their own consumable supplies (coffee, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.)
